you probably could do that by marking the articles as 'favorites' in the administrator console, then sort the items in Latest News Enhanced by setting 'include featured' to 'first'. That way, you have all featured articles showing first.

When an item is featured, use the classes .latestnewsitem.featured, which allows you to skin the featured items differently from the other ones.

If you know that you will always have the same amount of featured items, you can use the blog view of the extension and set the number of leading articles to the number of featured items. A good example of that is the homepage of this website, where paid extensions are featured and set as leading in order to have the featured items look differently from the remaining items.
