selection exclude was created by imma
At present, the Selection tab allows to exclude current item and to exclude items by ID. It would be handy to have the same range of exclude options as we have of include ones. I will be especially grateful if it was possible to exclude by tag.

With version 3, I was excited at the potential for neatness that the new 'exclude by tag' selection options could bring to our site. But when trying this feature, I bumped into a series of odd behaviors which I am trying to understand.

Firstly, I assume that if an article meets several filters, both 'Include' and 'Exclude', the 'Exclude' ones will prevail.

Now for the tests. Although my target settings would be:
Tags Filter: Exclude
Tags: -foo -bar -boz
Include Children: Yes
Tags Match Type: Any

... I will present a simplified alternative to exemplify. These settings:
Tags Filter: Exclude
Tags: -foo
Include Children: No
Tags Match Type: Any

... do not exclude a test item tagged 'foo'. Whereas these:
Tags Filter: Exclude
Tags: -foo
Include Children: No
Tags Match Type: All

... select only items older than 25 days! (Date Apply Range is set to 'None').

Cleaned cache after every change. Any clue as to what can be happening?

Hello Imma,

this is an odd behavior indeed. Especially your last example. There is no correlation between what you are trying to achieve and the fact that you can only see items that are 25 days older. This may just be a coincidence.

The one issue that concerns me most is the 'foo' not being excluded on your second example.

I will try and reproduce your issue and see if something is not right in the code.

I have fixed this issue.

It turns out that it would properly work with my demo test articles (results were different depending on if articles would have one tag or several).

I have also realized it is not possible to do an 'exclude' and 'all' together properly. Therefore this option will not be covered in the module after all.

Luckily enough, my actual requirements are:
Tags Filter: Exclude
Tags: -foo -bar -boz
Include Children: Yes
Tags Match Type: Any
I tested with 'all' just to try different combinations.
