This user's website is back online. After hours researching this problem, it turned out it may have been a template issue. Other templates were working fine. No further details have been provided.

At the end it turned out to be caused by an incorrect set up of reCaptcha: the Joomla plug-in was disabled while in other components it was activated. Somewhere on a forum I read that I should have installed jQuery. Probably due to cache the problem that the entire website wear no longer accessible seemed to be caused by the jQuery.
Just activating the reCaptcha plug-in was sufficient to get the website back.
